Speedrun Guide

Big Walk came out on August 4, 2026 — and within one day it had a speedrun leaderboard, and within a week runners were beating a 9–15 hour co-op game in under nine minutes. This guide covers the speedrun scene: the categories on speedrun.com, the infinite jump glitch behind current records, its patch status, and how to practice skips without ruining a casual group’s walk.

If you are looking for the intended route instead, start with the walkthrough hub. Everything below assumes you do not mind sequence-breaking spoilers.

Speedrun.com leaderboards

The speedrun.com Big Walk leaderboards opened on August 5, 2026. The boards split runs by which ending you go for and how much glitching is allowed, and every run is tagged with player count (1–12), whether the team used outside communication (Discord) or only in-game proximity chat, and whether challenge skipping was on.

As of August 2026, the active categories are:

CategoryRules in shortCurrent record
Big Goodbye UnrestrictedReach the Big Goodbye ending by any means8:31 — OLIVERb (solo, in-game chat)
Big Goodbye FlightlessNo infinite-height glitches10:33 — BowBeau (solo)
Big Goodbye GlitchlessNo glitches at all1:35:02 — Che_Da & RNGTime64 (duo)
Big Game UnrestrictedReach the Big Game ending by any means1:21 — nightcarries’ duo
Big Game In-BoundsMust stay in map bounds; glitches otherwise allowedIn progress
Big Game GlitchlessNo glitchesNo verified runs yet

Two things worth noting. The “Big Goodbye” boards target the game’s credits ending, while “Big Game” runs aim for the extended 100% completion ending. The race is extremely live: the top three Big Game Unrestricted runs sit within three seconds of each other (1:21, 1:23, 1:24).

The infinite jump glitch

The trick behind the 8:31 world record is a community-discovered movement glitch, reported within days of release. The runner grabs a light orb in the opening area and then flies over the entire game world to the ending trigger.

The mechanism, as described in community coverage and demonstrated in tutorial videos, is a three-input rhythm:

  1. Jump while holding a carryable item. (watch the orb grab at 0:22)
  2. Drop the item mid-jump — release it instead of throwing it.
  3. Re-grab it instantly, and jump again off the recovered position. Each clean cycle gains a little height; chained together, the walker climbs as high as the player’s rhythm holds.

From there the run is navigation: keep the rhythm, steer over the coastline and towers, and aim for the endgame. The record run glides straight to the giant black sphere, lands, and walks through the ending door.

Practical caveats

  • It is harder than it looks. The drop-and-re-grab window is tight, and a fumbled input over a cliff means a long fall and a lost item. Runners practice the rhythm over flat ground before attempting height.
  • Keyboard has the best documentation. Chocler’s tutorial — How to get OVER THE WALL in Big Walk — demonstrates the technique on keyboard and walks through rebinding keys for a comfortable rhythm; the community believes it is keyboard-only. PS5 players have posted their own method attempts, but no controller recipe is as established.
  • Do not build a casual session on it. If the item falls somewhere unreachable — water, a pit, out of bounds — the group’s run can be stranded. Keep a normal route ready.

Patch status

As of August 11, 2026 the glitch still works in the current build. Runs using infinite-height tech were verified on speedrun.com as recently as August 9–10. But this is clearly unintended behavior in a game House House is actively patching, and movement glitches like this are exactly what updates tend to remove. Patch 1.4.10 (August 21) made it “harder to clip through certain walls,” but the infinite jump itself has not been explicitly blocked.

Enjoy it while it exists. If a patch lands and your rhythm suddenly gains no height, check the speedrun.com forums and community Discords for the current state before blaming your hands.

Flightless category

Infinite height is not the only skip on the board. The Flightless category bans infinite-height glitches outright, and its current record shows how much is left: BowBeau’s 10:33 uses item collision clipping — picking up a football in the starting area and using its physics to clip out of the map, then repeating the trick to get around the big green wall.

Solo players are also chipping away at the co-op design itself: runners have posted methods for climbing ledges that normally require a teammate’s boost, and for beating some early-game puzzles alone.

How to practice in groups

Speedrun tech and a casual walk mix poorly unless someone is in charge. A simple split that works:

  • Navigator — stays oriented and calls the next landmark, so a failed skip never leaves the group lost.
  • Runner — practices the rhythm or the route with a spare, replaceable item, never the group’s only key.
  • Host anchor — stays in a safe spot in the host’s world; since saves live with the host, a stranded experiment costs minutes, not the session.
  • Recorder — notes the time, the game version, and whether the trick worked, so the group knows what changed after a patch.

And the ground rule for mixed groups: agree before anyone skips. A puzzle the group flies over is a puzzle some players never got to solve — and skipped challenges do not count toward 100% completion anyway.

Before you submit

  1. Open the live leaderboard before calling any time current — records change daily.
  2. Compare the same finish, movement rules, player count, and communication filter. Do not compare a solo in-game-chat run with a two-player Discord run.
  3. Use accepted run pages rather than rounded video titles for verified timing.
  4. Record your game version. House House is actively patching; a run on 1.4.8 may behave differently on 1.5.1.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Big Walk questions.

What is the current Big Walk world record?

The Big Goodbye Unrestricted solo world record is 8:31 by OLIVERb, using in-game chat only. The Big Game Unrestricted duo record is 1:21 by nightcarries.

Is the infinite jump glitch patched?

As of August 2026, the infinite jump still works in the current build (1.5.1). Patch 1.4.10 made wall-clipping harder but has not explicitly blocked the infinite jump. Check speedrun.com forums after each patch for the current status.

What is the difference between Big Goodbye and Big Game categories?

Big Goodbye targets the credits ending after the main tower and wall route. Big Game aims for the extended 100% completion ending that requires additional post-game puzzle work.

Can I speedrun on console?

Yes. Runs are tagged by platform. Controller methods for the infinite jump are less established than keyboard methods, but speedrun.com accepts console runs with appropriate verification.

Does using Discord affect my run's validity?

Speedrun.com filters runs by whether outside communication (Discord) or in-game proximity chat only was used. Both are valid in different categories. Always declare which your run used.

How do I avoid ruining a casual group while practicing speedrun skips?

Assign roles: Navigator stays oriented, Runner practices with a spare item, Host anchors the save, and Recorder tracks what worked. Always agree before skipping — a skipped puzzle is one some players never got to solve.
