Big Walk Version 1.4.9 — The Big One
Most significant gameplay changes so far: session passwords required, invert look X, frame rate limit, vsync defaults, and better save protection.
On August 17, 2026, House House shipped Version 1.4.9 for Big Walk — SteamDB first caught this as a surprisingly large (~1GB) build with no notes attached (the “mystery update”) before the official patch notes landed. It holds the most significant gameplay changes so far.

What changed in 1.4.9
Session passwords now required
Session Passwords are now required when starting a game. This is a direct response to the community issue of strangers joining password-protected lobbies — a frustrating experience where hosts set passwords to keep randoms out, only to have those randoms brute-force their way in. Session passwords now gate lobby entry at the protocol level.
How it works in practice:
- The host sets a password when creating a new session
- Players joining via Join Code must enter the password before connecting
- Pre-1.4.9 Join Codes with no password may need to be refreshed
- See the Connection Fixes guide for troubleshooting password-related join failures
New settings
Invert Look X — a new setting for players who prefer inverted horizontal look. This was one of the most-requested accessibility options at launch.
Frame Rate Limit — players can now cap their framerate directly in-game. Useful for laptop players, those experiencing heat issues, or anyone who wants to limit power consumption.
VSync changes
Vsync is now on by default, with a new “vsync half” option added. This locks the game to half your monitor’s refresh rate (e.g., 30fps on a 60Hz display), which can help on systems where full vsync causes performance issues.
Also added: an option for vsync half that locks you to half the framerate of normal vsync.
Stability and fixes
- Better protection against losing save data — a major concern for groups running long sessions
- Made it harder to clip through walls
- Fixed completed challenges requiring a second completion after reloading — a frustrating progression blocker
- Fixed two players passing through a turnstile together
- Fixed the game stopping if a player disconnects while being carried
Console equivalent
Console versions (PS5 / Switch 2) received Update 1.005 on August 18, 2026 — a quiet-voice fix reached consoles one day after the PC patch.

Invert Look X (for inverted horizontal look) and Frame Rate Limit (to cap framerate directly in-game).
What happened to vsync?
Vsync is now on by default. A new 'vsync half' option was added, locking to half the monitor's refresh rate — helpful for systems where full vsync causes performance issues.
